The Cockatoo

Grow and Develop:

Cockatoos can range from 30-60 cm in length,they can weight up too 300-1,200 g,there is one cockatoo that is considered smaller and slimmer then the other cockatoos.The cockatoos have strong claws,short legs,and waddling gate,they often use there bill (the beck) to climb through branches.


Reproduce:

The cockatoos make a nest and make a hole in a tree ,then put the nest in the hole so their predators don't get them.The cockatoos do they eggs that are oval and white but they do discolours. The size of the eggs can range between 55 to 37 mm.The palm cockatoo and some other larger cockatoos only lay one egg, and the smaller cockatoos can lay between 2-8 eggs .

they can blend into anything that is around them, they can change the amount of blood that circulates in certain areas that makes their feathers age or change colours.



habitat

eleven of the 21 species is in Australia ,and the seven others are in Philippines, Indonesia, Papua new guinea ,and in Solomon islands.no cockatoos have been found in Borneo Palawan ,although a fossil of a cockatoo has been found in new Caledonia.Cockatoos are cavity nesters they nest in wholes in trees,and they are unable to avcavate themselves.



food and water:


Cockatoos are Versailles feeders and eat mostly vegetables,seeds are a big part of there diet .the ground feeding species like to forage in flocks ,which form tight ,squabbling groups where seeds are concentrated dispersed lines where food is more sparsely distributed,they also prefer open areas where visibility is good.

The Western and long-billed Corellas have elongated bills to excavate tubers and roots,the Major Mitchell's Cockatoo likes to walk in a circle around a doublegree (emex australis) to twist out and remove the underground parts.
